| Fort Meade is located in Maryland in close proximity to Washington DC and Baltimore Maryland (in the middle between the both). The Fort was named after General George Gordon Meade a renowned Civil War General for the Union Army (not to be confused with George Herbert Meade the philosopher). George Meade is best known for defeating General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. Fort Meade is very close to Washington DC and the US Government uses the military installation to house government facilities. Ft Meade is the headquarters to the NSA, headquarters of the Defense Courier Service, an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) facility, and a DoD (Department of Defense) Courier School. Fort Meade is also very Baltimore Washington International Airport and 20 minutes from the city of Baltimore and 1/2 an hour from Washington DC. The fort is considered the nations Preeminent Center for Information and Intelligence. |
